Brian Vermeulen, President
Brian is the President and Founder of both BV Land Consulting Ltd. and Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. Brian has a long-standing history in the oil and gas industry and extensive background in Power and Agriculture. He has been an active surface landman since the beginning of 1994 and throughout the past 15 years has been heavily involved in overseeing field acquisition throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Northeastern British Columbia. From 1994 to 1998, Brian was with Encal Energy Ltd., which was one of the top 3 most active companies in the northeastern region of British Columbia. Other than overseeing field acquisition, his duties also include First Nations, community, government, corporate and media relations. Through Encal, Brian was heavily involved with CAPP (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers) working on issues as they related to NE British Columbia.
In 1997, Brian was part of the Capp task group helping to formulate the MOU’s that the BC government negotiated with the seven Treaty 8 First Nations. As well, in 2000, Brian was part of another team drafting and formulating the new draft Public Consultation Guidelines for NEBC with the BC Oil and Gas Commission. Through CAPP, Brian has worked closely with various agencies of the Provincial Government of British Columbia and has developed strong working relationships with numerous Deputy and Assistant Deputy Ministers as well as with internal employees of the Oil and Gas Commission.
In January of 2001, Calpine acquired Encal and in January 2002, Brian left Calpine to start BV Land Consulting Ltd., specializing in Northeast British Columbia and Northwest Alberta to develop land access, and First Nations and regulatory affairs. He is presently a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen. Brian has also held a position as Director and BC Chairman for the Small Explorers and Producers Association of Canada.
In September of 2007, with the help of Margi Twomey, Brian founded Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. as a means of providing a greater range of services to their clients. With the addition of NRES Ltd., our team can provide complete and comprehensive land acquisition, consultation, and environmental services in the venues of oil and gas, mining, and power.
Margi (Twomey) Meekes, Project Coordinator
Margi graduated with distinction from the Northern Lights College Land and Resource Management program in 2004. After graduating from the program, she began working for a local environmental company. Within two years, she was the field manager, supervising crews, managing schedules and coordinating projects. Margi has a vast background in agriculture, and prior to starting her career in the environmental field, she acquired knowledge of oil & gas operations at a field level. Margi joined NRES in July of 2007 as Project Coordinator, and she has played an integral role in the fast-paced growth the company has experienced. Margi brings professionalism, knowledge, experience, dedication, flexibility and never-ending positive energy to all the necessary venues of the company in order to contribute to its’ success.
Erin Whitford, Field Supervisor
Erin Whitford graduated from the Land and Resource Management (LRM) program at Northern Lights College in the spring of 2006. Erin worked part time for a local environmental company throughout the duration of the LRM program. Upon graduation, Erin continued working with the same company on a full-time basis. Erin has become efficient and self-motivated when it comes to completing projects and has gained valuable skills and knowledge during her career in the environmental industry. Erin joined Northern Rockies Environmental Services Ltd. (NRES) in the spring of 2008. After one year of being with NRES, Erin has become the Field Supervisor. She organizes field crews and projects to ensure they are completed in a professional and timely manner. She is also deeply involved with the NRES safety program.
Lane Giesbrecht, AScT, Environmental Consultant
With an interest in fostering best use management practices between the environment and oil and gas exploration, Lane obtained a Bachelors of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Management from Lakeland College in May of 2007. Lane obtained his degree after completing a thesis on the Affects of Pipeline Construction on the Productivity of Agricultural Land in North Eastern British Columbia. Lane also completed a Natural Resources Technology Diploma from Lakeland College in 2005. Lane has four years of experience in the environmental sector working on projects in the fields of reclamation, contaminated sites and drilling waste. At NRES, Lane is currently working as an environmental consultant and spearheading the drilling waste sector. In his spare time Lane enjoys guiding big game hunts, training colts and playing hockey.
K’Shian Hooker, CEPIT, Safety Coordinator ~ Environmental Technician
K’Shian Hooker is a graduate of the Land and Resource Management Program at the Northern Lights College. She joined NRES in February 2008 as an Environmental Technician, and has since worked on various projects including the Provincial Agriculture Wildlife Program (AWP). K’Shian has been instrumental in developing the NRES company health and safety program and is currently acting as Safety Coordinator. She also completes fieldwork for schedule ‘A’ site assessments and monitoring soil stripping during pipeline right-of-way construction. K’Shian has obtained certification in the Canadian Environmental Practitioner in Training (CEPIT) program, and is constantly looking for ways to increase her knowledge, skills, and environmental expertise.
